Halloween Party Mixup

A costume party, infidelity and an embarassing mistake make for a great story...

A local married couple was invited to a Halloween party, the wife, being the traditional organizer for their outings, arranged rental costumes for the both of them. On the day of the party, the wife became a little nauseous but talked her husband into going on without her. Somewhat disappointed, the husband put on his costume and headed off for the party alone.

A few hours after her husband's departure, the wife started to feel much better. So much better, in fact, that she decided to attend the party, albeit a little late. Since her husband hadn't seen her costume, she decided that this would be a good opportunity to observe his behavior first-hand without his knowing it. Before their marriage, her husband was quite the ladies man.

When she arrived at the party, she immediately spotted her husband in costume, dancing and making time with several different women. The wife, incognito in her own costume, approached her beloved and started openly flirting with him. After a few dances, she allowed her husband to lead her into an empty bedroom, where they made love without removing their masks.

After their little rendezvous, she left the party, rushed home, jumped back into bed, and awaited her husband's arrival. When he finally came home, she asked how his evening went. He told her that since he doesn't really have much fun at parties when she's not with him, he gave his costume to someone else and spent the evening in a back room playing poker…but the guy who borrowed his costume had a terrific evening!

This story is a classic involving mistaken identity.  The first version of this story was introduced to the public in a 1965 joke book entitled "Laugh Day." And just about every Halloween since, a new and modified version of this story starts making it's rounds.  Usually it's told as something that happened to a friend of a friend (FOAF), but sometimes is passed around as a mere joke.  Either way, it's a believable story about a flirtacious man and a suspecting wife.  The irony of the story results from the wife setting out to prove her husband is cheating and she unknowingly ends up cheating on him, the faithful partner.

Don't laugh too hard, you never know what people (including yourself) may happen to do when under the veil of disguise.  And over this Halloween weekend, please take the following words of caution from a dear friend...(click here)
